Cake Inspiration Your
wedding cake
There are many different designs,
types, colours and shapes of wedding
cakes to choose from. The best way to
choose what you like is to look through
books and magazines and then look at
pictures of your cake makers work.

Things
to consider when choosing you cake
The purpose of your cake: The
wedding cake is usually cut into small
slices and packaged into small bags for
the guest to take home. Another option
is to serve your cake as a dessert. It
will cost extra for a larger cake but
this is offset by reducing your catering
bill in the dessert costs. You may also
wish to keep the top layer of your cake
for your first anniversary or the birth
of your first child.
The
colour scheme of your wedding: You
may wish to match the cake decorations
with the bridesmaids dresses or your
flower colours. The traditional wedding
cake is still iced in white but coloured
icing is a popular option. To match
colour schemes you will need to take to
your cake designer, samples and pictures
of flowers and fabrics.
Wedding
Cake: The traditional fruit
cake is still the most popular, though
you are not limited to this. Other
options available consist of chocolate,
vanilla or carrot sponge cake. If you
wish to keep the top layer of the cake
it must be fruit cake. You can still
have other cake types for the lower
layers.
Wedding
Cake Decorations: Most wedding cakes
are decorated with flowers made of icing
or silk. Your cake designer will provide
both of these. Another option is fresh
flowers. These will need to be ordered
from your florist via your cake
designer. There are countless designs
for the wedding cake. To choose your
design look through as many books and
magazines as you can.

Consider
the following when imagining your ideal
wedding cake: Picture
of flowers, sample of brides dress
material, sample
of bridesmaids dress material, sample
of reception colors, picture of any cake
you have seen and would like them to
design and any special decoration or
centre piece you have chosen.

You
will need to discuss the following with
your cake designer: cake size, number of tiers, purpose of cake.
type of cake, number of guests,
decorations / colour, cost, deposit
amount and date and time of the wedding.
